Driving Mrs. Taylor
Driving Mrs. Taylor, possibly the worse back seat driver EVER! Gone are the days when I could put in a good cd, crank it up loud and belt some lyrics out with my favorite band while driving down the road. Thanks to the prince and princess riding in the back seat of my car.
Driving with Taylor is like nails on a chalkboard...I DREAD IT, hence why I rarely go any substantial amount of distance without my husband. It all starts when she sees her vehicle door open. She glares at the floor near her car seat to see what she can beg for on the road trip we are about to embark on. I buckle between her legs and the next words out of her mouth are “I DO!” she has to buckle the safety harness that goes on her chest herself. I shut her door, climb in the drivers seat, put my key in the ignition and find my favorite radio station...that is her queue, “mommy I want my DVD." Now some days when I am on top of things and in my best form I am all over that request when I strap her in. But most of the time I forget and I just want to get in the vehicle and get moving. For the second time” mommy I want my DVD"...my response" okay Taylor as soon as we get to the stop light I will turn it on." It feels like an eternity getting to that stoplight, because every 2 seconds that is all I hear is I WANT MY DVD. I get to the stoplight practically bust my arm trying to get it going, only to start driving again and her say " I want Barney" or if Barney is already playing "I want Bee Movie" or " I want Dora"...really Mrs. Thang can't you just be happy with what you have. I tell her to watch what is in there because I am not switching it out. Sometimes she accepts this answers, sometimes not...in which case I pay for it the entire trip by hearing her whine about the other show she wants to watch.
After we get the show situation under control, her next demand is a drink. I give her a drink and she sucks it down. She then asks for more, which I can not give her because with her reflux too much liquid is not good for her. So after her yelling at me a trillion time for more drink, she starts asking for a snack. Hopefully I am having a good day and I remembered to pack a snack, even though we just had a huge lunch or dinner. The final demand after she has gone through all of the above is to request all the items she saw on the floor before she even got in her car seat. She knows I can not reach them when I am driving, so she uses that request the rest of the car trip to drive me crazy!!! "Ahh man my favorite Beyonce song is on Taylor, sorry mommy is going to have to turn this up now:)~"
Brayden on the other hand is much older and can usually help me out with a few of those requests, that is if he is not in school. If he is with me, she will ask for more snacks and drinks the entire ride after he fills in her requests with the DVD player. At least he rides well, as long as he is cool and does not get warm. The minute he starts feeling hot he starts moaning he is going to get sick, then comes the gagging, then the projectile puking. Ya fun times here!
I now cringe at the fact of having to drive anywhere alone with my children. I miss being able to get in my vehicle and take a nice drive to nowhere to relax, just one of the many sacrifices a mom makes! I just keep telling myself when they are old and out of the house I am going to miss all the fun of driving Mrs. Taylor.
