Silent reflux GO AWAY!!!

Silent reflux in a young child is more painful than actual reflux. When I child has acid reflux they find relief by vomiting. Silent reflux is different and in many cases much worse. The child finds it difficult to vomit, chokes, wheezes, coughs and has a form of severe heartburn. Many doctors will not prescribe medicine to ease the child’s pain because they are not losing weight.

When Taylor came home from the hospital she was the perfect baby. However, after two weeks of being home and being on a normal schedule I started noticing her having similar signs as Brayden had, but much worse. I accepted the fact that she too was probably going to suffer from silent reflux and was hoping that simply adding cereal to her bottle would help ease the pain. Come to find out hers was much worse and eventually she had to go on medicine. The doctors said this would be something she would outgrow; this has not been the case...

Eight months ago I weaned Taylor off of Prevacid solutabs and she was doing great...until last month:( Taylor had begun to show signs that her reflux had returned. Poor sleeping, her breath smelled like acid and she was barely eating. One evening she woke up and she vomited all over her bed, floor, pillows and pajamas. After cleaning up the mess, settling her down she slept like a rock, at this point I realized that I would have to put her back on her medicine. I have tried to make changes to her diet, lessening her intake of fluids(which she drinks too much of) and put her back on the solutabs. I hope and pray this is something she outgrows and does not suffer from for the rest of her life.

Silent reflux often times goes undiagnosed and the doctors claim they need to change formulas, the baby is colic or they are just fussy infants. I want mothers to be aware of this awful disease and the signs that it rears.

So in this household we are not longer singing songs wishing the rain away...nowadays it is silent reflux go away!!!
